Merry Christmas!!!
Firstly I'd like to say a massive thank you for all your support in the past year, without which we wouldn't have been able to continue to bring you such a variety of inspired musicians. It's been a year in which we have aimed to celebrated both established and fledgling artists alike, and we hope you've enjoyed it all. It has seen Travis return to form with their brilliant Gold selling fifth album 'The Boy With No Name. Amongst other achievements we have seen Tinariwen nominated not once but twice for the BBC World Music Award as well as being voted on copious top ten albums of the year from The Word, Sunday Times, The Metro and Songlines to name but a few. We have also seen smaller acts like Angus and Julia Stone, Ben Taylor and Ulrich Schnauss produce an eclectic mix of truly brilliant tunes. In addition David Ford has brought us his critically acclaimed second album, which has been voted as one of the top 10 albums of the year according to the Sunday Times' Culture magazine. And here are a few words from the man himself:
David Ford:
'it’s good to know that there are some of you out there who have shown the necessary will to see beyond the fashion show toward the ugly kid in the corner and have spared a thought for the likes of me...So I would like thank everyone who has made this such an enjoyable and rewarding year for me, to wish you all a joyous 2008 and look forward to continuing the job of carving out a little something magical in the world for you and for me and not for them.'
And lastly but not least we look forward to bring you some brilliant new music from Martina Topley Bird in the new year. Martina has finished recording her amazing second album which was produced by long time friend Danger Mouse
Martina Topley Bird:
'Carnies was written around the piano riff probably about halfway through the making of the album. It was referred to as Pop Song for about a year because I couldn't settle on a lyric for it until the very last session in March...To me the song feels both jubilant and nostalgic. It's always been one of my favourites which is good cos it's going to be the first single. The album is due in April.'
Thanks again for all your support, have a brilliant Christmas and now go eat, drink and be merry.
